Lip and tongue ties are defects in the oral tissues that develop during pregnancy and are present at birth. They are characterized by overly large or thick bands of tissue (called frenums or frenulums) that limit movements of the upper lip and/or tongue. In the past quarter of a century or so, many medical professionals have been treating these issues more frequently than ever before.
